Volunteers Plant Trees at Flathead Lake’s Newest State Park: Somers Beach State Park
In September 2025, Flathead Lakers members and staff joined more than 20 volunteers to help restore the new Somers Beach State Park. Together, they planted quaking aspen, hawthorn, snowberry, and other native trees - an important first step in creating habitat for wildlife and providing shade and cover near new park facilities.
The planting effort was led by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, with support from the Flathead Lakers and Flathead River to Lake Initiative partners. This year’s focus was establishing shade near park infrastructure, while next year’s efforts will shift toward restoring broader wildlife habitat across the site. These improvements were made possible through project matching funds from the Montana State Parks Foundation, the Sliter family, Flathead Land Trust, Flathead Lakers, and other generous supporters.
A big thank-you to everyone who came out to lend a hand! Keep an eye on this e-newsletter for more opportunities to get involved and help restore Somers Beach State Park.
