“Four generations of our family have enjoyed the clean waters of Flathead Lake. As our teenage granddaughter has said, “Wherever I go I will carry part of the lake inside me.”

We have long supported the Flathead Lakers to help ensure that future generations experience similar joy. We helped establish the Flathead Lakers Endowment at the Montana Community Foundation in 2012. Then in 2013, we made a “planned gift” to the endowment by donating appreciated common stock. We were able to take advantage of the Montana Endowment Tax Credit and a federal tax deduction to significantly reduce our 2013 taxes. The “after tax cost” of our $10,212 deferred annuity gift was $3,283. Our planned gift grew to nearly $14,000 by 2018, when we relinquished our income interest in the annuity. That $14,000 will continue to grow at the Montana Community Foundation, yielding annual income to the Flathead Lakers in perpetuity.

We are grateful knowing that our family’s legacy includes protecting our special lake and watershed for generations to come. I invite you to plan ahead for your legacy. Please consider a “legacy gift” to the Flathead Lakers Endowment Fund at the Montana Community Foundation. Or, you may wish to include the Flathead Lakers as a beneficiary in your will.”
