The Flathead Lakers attend Water Quality Awareness Day at the Montana State Capitol Rotunda

On Friday, March 10th, Susan Tietelman, board members Onno Wieringa and Jan Swanson traveled to Helena to attend Water Quality Awareness Day at the Montana State Capitol Rotunda. The event was held in recognition of the national Groundwater Awareness Week to highlight water issues that impact Montana communities. The Lakers and other water quality agencies and organizations from across Montana set up informational booths around the rotunda and spent the day engaging with legislators about the work we are doing to protect our local watersheds. Many water-related topics were discussed, including septic leachate, aquatic invasive species, and nutrient and stormwater pollution. The event was well attended by legislators from the Senate and the House.

"I was personally grateful to learn more about some of the water quality bills that have come up during this legislative session -- and also to receive a crash course on septic systems!  It was an honor to spend the day connecting with legislators as well as representatives from organizations who are working hard to protect Montana's waterways. Special thanks to Cassidy Bender of the Montana DNRC for organizing the event!" - Susan Tietelman, Legislative Intern.
