Flathead Lake Biological Station at Yellow Bay, is a satellite campus of the University of Montana, and by far the best source of credible scientific information on Flathead Lake and the Flathead River Basin ecosystem.

Flathead Basin Commission was established by the Montana Legislature to monitor and protect the Flathead Lake aquatic environment. The Commission maintains an office in Kalispell and is composed of resource management agency representatives and citizen members.

Montana Water Center is a clearinghouse for Montana water-related information.

Montana Watercourse is a statewide water education program that supports water resource decision making and stewardship by providing unbiased information, resources, tools and education to all water users.

Montana Watershed Coordination Council is a partnership working to enhance, conserve, and protect natural resources and sustain the high quality of life in Montana through a watershed approach.

Montana Department of Environmental Quality is the state agency charged with protecting the state's waters and environmental quality. The link takes you to their water quality information page.

Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Department of Natural Resources has jurisdiction over water resources on the Flathead Indian Reservation.

Northwest Montana Lakes Volunteer Monitoring Network recruits and trains volunteers to monitor water quality, identify and report aquatic invasive species, and promote watershed stewardship in Northwest Montana.

Whitefish Lake Institute is as nonprofit organization committed to protecting and improving Whitefish area lake resources.

Headwaters Montana is a nonprofit working to protect the waters, wildlands and wildlife of the Crown of the Continent ecosystem.

Montana Land Reliance works throughout Montana to help landowners place voluntary conservation easements on their property to protect wildlife, scenery, water quality, and traditional ways of life.

American Bird Conservancy, working locally through their Northern Birds Conservation Region office in Kalispell, and Flathead Audubon work to conserve birds and their habitat.
