Biography: Aaron Clausen

Aaron Clausen was introduced to the Flathead Basin in 2014, when he was recruited by the Flathead Lakers to serve as the Flathead River Steward through the Big Sky Watershed Corps program (Americorps). He was retained by the Flathead Lakers at the end of his term of service, and now serves as the Flathead River Steward Program Coordinator, where he will continue to assist partner agencies and landowners along the Flathead River in implementing riparian restoration projects.
Aaron grew along the Missouri River in South Dakota, and attended University of South Dakota. Leaving the Great Plains, he then moved to Washington to pursue a master’s degree in biology from Eastern Washington University, where he specialized in riparian ecology and studied the vegetative response to dam removals on the Olympic Peninsula. Following this he moved to Missoula, Montana, and contracted as an ecologist for the U.S. Geological Survey.
Aaron enjoys spending time outside on bike, boat, or board; also botanizing, and cooking.
