| How the TMDL Report Landed on the Internet The TMDL committee finished its work in 1997. The report was finished late that summer. Some 60 copies of the technical committee's report were printed, mainly for distribution to committee members and bureaucrats. But there was no funding for a larger press run. Nor was electronic publication an immediate practical option: the Flathead Basin Commission does not have a web site, and likely will not have one anytime soon. For all practical purposes, the report was not available to the public Hoping to correct this situation, but also lacking the funds for a significant press run, Citizens for a Better Flathead, a Kalispell, Montana, based nonprofit that was represented on the TMDL team, procured a digital copy of the report and asked if I could post it on my Flathead Flood & High Water web site. I agreed. During January and February, I spent my spare time formatting the report in HTML. Although CBF helped make this project possible, I alone, of course, bear all responsibility for the final product. (I'm still working on a for-printing version that will be posted as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file for downloading.) At my request, the Flathead Lakers agreed to host these pages, as it is the logical organization to provide information on this subject. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who helped make this a successful exercise in electronic publication. James Conner, August, 1998 |
